Reminiscing 2019 (and previous years)
In comparison to all years in business, 2019 was one of our slower-paced years. However, that didn't stop 2019 from being the best transitional year for us here at The Wanderess Photography!
Our photographic style evolved
I started up my photography business on January 1st, 2015. It'll be five years in 2020, and I think it's time to look back and see how far The Wanderess Photography has come. (Fun fact: The Wanderess Photography was previously named Brenna Barron Photography.)
It's certainly safe to say that we went through all of the basic changes that all new business owners and photographers experience. Firstly you must discover your niche, then create your own unique style, and then work profusely on your marketing in order to bring your business vision to life. Most of these have finally been accomplished, and most definitely not in that order. (But I've learned that it's totally okay!)
This year, 2019, has brought me real trial and real error. I've learned quite a few things that maybe I wish I knew in 2015. I won't go into detail on that, because I think we all have to figure some things out on our own. ;)
The result is that I have finally found my true niche. We've dabbled in just about every genre of photography. In 2020, our main focus is weddings and engagements. We will, however, continue to offer our previous genres. You can look forward to: weddings, engagements, parenthood, individuals, and blush.
This year, I have created the most beautiful and dreamy style that I pray my current and future clients will adore. It's taken many adjustments to find where my editing style belongs, and I've found that it's somewhere between dark + moody and light + airy. Perhaps dark + airy or light + moody? You tell me. Regardless, my editing went through some very dark moments, it went through some very orange moments, and some very matte and vibrant moments.
As a fun look-back, here are three photos from when I was first starting photography. One of these pictures is from 2011. It's always fun, slightly embarrassing, and hilarious to look back on photos like these:
To compare, here are three photographs that were a result of the 2019 style evolvement:
We tried some new things
In 2018, we decided to try something special as a surprise for one of our wedding clients. We experimented with wedding videography. Their video turned out pretty okay for our first one, so we decided to do another video this year. It is amazing, and I am so excited to share it with you all in the next blog post.
For 2020, we will officially be adding wedding videography to our investment options. I hope you all are ready! More details to come.
In 2019, we have also started adding double exposures to our regular portrait and wedding galleries. They've become a staple to The Wanderess Photography.
2020 is going to be great
I'm sure that most people make a list of goals for the new year. Mine include:
· six weddings
· twenty portrait sessions
· three wedding videos
Help us hit these goals and bring in the new decade with grace and excitement.
